Taxi to Heathrow Terminal 4: Why Pre-Book

A taxi to Heathrow Terminal 4 is simplest when it’s booked in advance, not arranged on the day — and this matters more than ever now that Terminal 4’s pickup arrangements have changed.

  • Fixed fare agreed upfront — you know the exact cost before you travel.
  • Guaranteed vehicle — the car you need is reserved, not left to chance at a rank.
  • Flight monitoring only works if you’ve pre-booked — it can’t track a walk-up job.
  • No confusion at the new pickup points — your driver already knows where to meet you post-redevelopment.

Traveller tip: book your return leg at the same time as your outbound trip. It takes seconds and means one less thing to think about mid-holiday or mid-trip.

Important: Heathrow Terminal 4 Parking & Pickup Has Changed (June 2026)

If you’ve used Terminal 4 before, don’t assume the old pickup routine still applies.

What changed: Heathrow permanently closed the Terminal 4 multi-storey car park on 23 June 2026, as part of a redevelopment programme expected to run until roughly 2031. This was the car park that used to host Terminal Parking and Meet & Greet Parking right next to the building.

Where parking and pickups happen now: all Terminal 4 passenger parking and most pickups have moved to Park & Ride Zone A on Scylla Road (postcode TW6 3XL), reached by a frequent free shuttle bus (roughly 6-15 minutes) from the terminal.

Two pickup options now exist:

  • Priority Pick-Up Area — a quick collection point directly outside the terminal, charged similarly to the drop-off charge (from £7 for up to 10 minutes).
  • Park & Ride Zone A — free to use for pickups, but requires the shuttle bus journey each way.

Drop-off is unaffected — departures drop-off directly outside the terminal remains open as normal.

What this means for your taxi: confirm with your driver or AirportBee at booking which pickup point applies to your journey, since the right choice depends on how quickly you want collecting versus avoiding a pickup charge.

About Heathrow Terminal 4

Heathrow Terminal 4 is one of four active terminals at Heathrow Airport (Terminal 1 closed in 2015), located on Heathrow’s Southern Perimeter Road, directly accessible from the M25 and M4.

Who uses it: Terminal 4 is home to a mix of SkyTeam and Gulf carriers, handling significant volumes of Middle Eastern and Asian long-haul traffic alongside major European routes.

Passenger experience: Terminal 4 tends to feel more self-contained than the shared T2/T3 complex, with its own check-in hall, security area and arrivals facilities geared to the airlines that use it most.

Facilities include:

  • Restaurants and cafés across the departure lounge
  • Duty-free and retail shopping
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal
  • Airport lounges for eligible passengers
  • Family facilities including baby changing areas
  • An Assisted Services Hub, now based in Park & Ride Zone A, for accessibility support

Postcode for sat-nav: the postcode for Heathrow Terminal 4 itself is TW6 3XA. The new Park & Ride Zone A pickup/parking point uses postcode TW6 3XL.

Airlines Operating from Heathrow Terminal 4

Terminal 4 handles a mix of SkyTeam and Gulf carriers. Airlines commonly operating from here include:

  • Qatar Airways
  • Etihad Airways
  • Air France
  • KLM

Important: always confirm your terminal on your booking confirmation or airline app before travelling. Airline-terminal assignments occasionally change, and if you’re flying British Airways, a Star Alliance carrier, or Virgin Atlantic/Emirates, you’ll need Terminal 5, Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 — not Terminal 4.

Heathrow Terminal 4 Drop-Off Charge

How much is it? Heathrow’s own terminal drop-off charge is £7 per visit, in force since 1 January 2026, with a maximum stay of 10 minutes in the drop-off zone. This applies to departures drop-off at Terminal 4, which is unaffected by the June 2026 parking changes.

How is it enforced? The drop-off area is barrier-free, monitored by ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras. There’s no ticket machine and no barrier — you’re logged as soon as you enter the zone.

How do I pay it? Online at heathrow.com, via the Heathrow app, or by an automated phone service — by 11:59pm the day after your visit. You cannot pay at the terminal itself.

What if I don’t pay? A Penalty Charge Notice follows: £40 if paid within 14 days, rising to £80 after that.

The key point for taxi passengers: book a taxi and this charge is simply folded into your quoted fare. You’re not standing at your phone trying to pay an ANPR charge while holding up the lane behind you.

Heathrow Terminal 4 Arrivals

  1. Immigration — international arrivals go through passport control first; this is usually the longest queue at peak times.
  2. Baggage claim — carousel numbers are shown on arrivals screens.
  3. Customs — a hold-up here is on you as the passenger, not chargeable to AirportBee.
  4. Choosing your pickup point — decide (or confirm with your driver) whether you’re meeting at the Priority Pick-Up Area or Park & Ride Zone A, given the 2026 changes.
  5. Meeting your driver — with Meet & Greet, your driver waits at the agreed point with a name board.

Heathrow Terminal 4 Departures

  1. Drop-off — your taxi drops you directly at the Terminal 4 departures drop-off zone, unaffected by the parking changes.
  2. Check-in — allow extra time during peak periods, particularly for long-haul departure banks.
  3. Security — plan for standard Heathrow security timings; arrive early during busy periods.
  4. Recommended arrival times — a useful general guide is around 3 hours before an international flight, 2 hours for European flights, and 90 minutes for domestic flights, though always defer to your airline’s specific advice.

Meet & Greet at Heathrow Terminal 4

Meet & Greet is the service most business travellers, families and first-time visitors choose for a stress-free arrival — and it’s especially useful at Terminal 4 right now, given the pickup-point changes.

  • Your driver waits at the agreed pickup point — either the Priority Pick-Up Area or Park & Ride Zone A.
  • A name board makes you easy to spot.
  • Your driver helps with luggage from the terminal (or the shuttle stop) to the car.
  • Flight tracking is included, so your driver already knows if you’ve landed early or late.
  • If your flight is delayed, your driver’s arrival adjusts automatically — no extra charge for a tracked delay.
